The Cleveland Cavaliers would love nothing more than to go back to the NBA Finals and deliver their fan base the franchise’s first championship this season. That won’t be the only “first” of the 2015-16 NBA season for them, either.
Cleveland recently unveiled three new alternate custom basketball uniforms for the new season. The three new uniforms embody Cleveland’s history, while also mixing together different combinations to give the team a fresh but familiar look.
You can see all three Cleveland uniforms here.
The first uniform is a gold retro jersey and shorts that kick back to the 70’s. The jerseys are expected to be featured during six “Hardwood Classic Nights” and should be a fun throwback option for fans to enjoy.
Jersey number two has the look and feel of the 80’s, as the Cavs pay homage to the Back to the Future Days, just like we all have been recently. This looks is best known for the “V” resembling a hoop with a basketball hanging over it. It also has a modern feel with the bold, rich maroon coloring. This jersey is expected to be debuted in Cleveland’s home opener, where they’ll take on the Miami Heat on October 30th.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Cavs black alternate uniform, which has a sharp, jagged “C” on the chest and is all black with gold and maroon trim. It’s got an updated logo on the side of the shorts like the other new uni’s, too, and overall has a very modern feel to it. There’s very little in the throwback or retro department with this one, a style of jersey the Cavs haven’t seen since 2003.
The big issue with this one could be that it’s a sleeved jersey, which will mark the first time the Cavs will willingly do so with their own uniforms. LeBron James complained publicly a few years ago when the NBA-commissioned Christmas Day uniforms had sleeves on the jerseys. It will be interesting to see if he complains again about these black jerseys and how he performs in them.
Overall, it’s a great trio of alternate jerseys for Cleveland, who has their sights on their first ever title this year. Their normal jerseys look as strong as ever, but it’s nice for fans to get excited about three different looks for different times during the 2015-16 NBA season.
