Week 6 Could Be a Good Week For Browns to Don Orange Jerseys

Don orange jerseys

Cleveland Browns fans have had to put up with a lot during their team’s history. There have been the countless years of missing the playoffs, the litany of seasons with a lethargic offense, the running string of pedestrian-to-awful quarterbacks. And there was obviously their heart-breaking playoff loss in the 80’s and the moving of the franchise – which surely takes the cake.

It’s no joke when people call Cleveland the “Factory of Sadness”, but this year the Browns actually have some things to get excited about. Cleveland busted out some sweet new custom football uniforms, Johnny Manziel showed progress, defensive tackle Danny Shelton looks like the real deal and veteran quarterback Josh McCown has actually been, you know, good.

McCown even put up a career high (and Browns franchise record) in a huge win over the Baltimore Ravens last week (457 yards. yowza).

Josh McCown quieted all of that “start Johnny Football” chatter and suddenly the Browns are 2-3. With Ben Roethlisberger sidelined with a knee injury and the Ravens in a far worse spot, the Browns could actually start thinking about making a run at the top of the division. The undefeated Bengals would surely have something to say about that, but a huge win over the Broncos at home this week would certainly be a huge step in the right direction.

Of course, one has to wonder just how likely getting that win is. A look back at the Browns uniforms this year, dating back to preseason, tells us a pretty clear story: any amount of brown might be too much brown.

Sure, it might be crazy to directly correlate winning with what the Browns have been wearing, but in games where the Browns where brown in 2015, they’re just 3-5. When they wear all white, they’re 1-1 and when they bust out their trifecta of colors (orange, white and brown) they’re undefeated (1-0). That’s the look they sported last week for their massive win in Baltimore, and if they’re smart, they’ll consider using it again this week when Peyton Manning and the Broncos come to town.

History suggests they won’t, however. Just one home game has seen them where anything other than their all white uniforms this year.

Then again, there is another option: the orange Browns uniforms.

Cleveland has yet to bust them out in nine games (including preseason) and this week could be the perfect time to use them. Cleveland will be taking on the Broncos, who usually have orange in their jerseys. Any amount of confusion would be good with the Browns going up against the undefeated Broncos.

More importantly, Browns fans and NFL fans alike just want to see the orange jerseys put to work live in a game.

Which Browns uniform do you like the most? Do you think which one they wear this week will matter against the Broncos? Tell us in the comments below!

Bucks Sport Cool New Hats Designed by Players

Bucks sport cool new hats designed by players

The NBA rarely is lacking in the fashion department. We know that from watching guys like Russell Westbrook in post-game interviews. We know that from some of the sweet custom basketball uniforms that take the court. And we also know that based on shoes and various gear some of the more expressive players decide to don for games.

Bow ties and shoes, move aside. The Milwaukee Bucks are dropping some serious style with a different accessory – hats.

The best part? The team is letting their own players do it. The NBA and New Era made this project possible, as they’ve put the creative minds of Bucks players John Henson, Jabari Parker, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damien Inglis to the test. Each player worked with New Era to submit a unique design for the “Bucks x New Era Player Edition” project and the ultimate winner (the best hat) will be decided upon based off of a fan vote.

Jabari Parker, Milwaukee’s top rookie of a year ago, said that he enjoyed the creative process, in which he worked with New Era’s design team to create his own signature style.

“I enjoyed that a lot. I’m a creative guy”, said Parker.

Parker, Henson, Inglis and “Alphabet” (because let’s be honest, that name is a nightmare) all got their inspiration for their Bucks hat designs from different places, but the end goal for all four was the same: to produce four special designs that Bucks fans could appreciate and ultimately decide which one was best.

Along with getting NBA players involved, this New Era project also gets the fans involved. Fans obviously get to vote to help decide which hat stands tall above the rest, and of those fans that vote, five will be randomly selected to get an autographed hat by the Bucks player that designed it.

Head over to NBA.com to vote for your favorite Bucks hat and your chance to win!

Seahawks 12th Man Jersey is a Top Seller

Seehawks 12th man jersey is a top seller

Talk about putting yourself first when it comes to promoting your favorite team. Seattle Seahawks fans are doing just that when they buy “12th Man” jerseys, which happen to be a top seller across the league according to NFLShop.com.

Sure, Seattle star players still reign supreme. Jimmy Graham goes #3 among tight ends, Russell Wilson is 9th overall and Marshawn Lynch has the 15th best-selling NFL jersey. But an entire fan base working their way inside the top-25? Now that’s impressive.

Seahawks fans have taken custom football uniforms to a whole new level, as an NFL jersey you would otherwise almost always have to surely submit a special order for, now is just sold as if its a regular player jersey. It’s an impressive feat, but the number of requests must have been so large that NFLShop starting simply making it to sell as if it is a player jersey.

That works out for Seattle fans, who take great pride in being one of the top fan bases, which makes Seattle’s home field one of the toughest locations for visitors to play. It’s even more difficult when you add all of the Seahawks fans that don the jersey, which ranked an impressive 19th in the top-25 released in mid-September.

Not impressed? There is a laundry list of elite names the 12th Man jersey beat out to crack the top-25, with the likes of Julio Jones, Drew Brees and Clay Matthews visibly behind the jersey in the NFLShop jersey sales ranks.

Seahawks fans can choose from various colors and styles, while the jersey boasts the trademark #12 and “Fan” on the back. It might not last inside the top-25 for the entire season, but it’s interesting to note that it got in the top-25 in the first place.

Impressed by Seattle’s fan base getting the 12th Man jersey inside the top-25? Makes you hate the Seahawks even more? Tell us how you feel in the comments below!

What is the Future of Custom Cleats in Football?

custom cleats in football

College football is opening the doors (and our minds) to a whole new way to look at what we put on our feet. Thanks to the rivalry between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Miami Hurricanes, we’re getting a closer look at player personality and branding. And that’s just the start.

We’re not used to seeing players being able to customize their shoes or really any apparel on the football field. Peyton Manning wasn’t allowed to honor the late, great Johnny Unitas with his old school cleats many years ago, and just last week Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was fined for wearing unapproved blue cleats to match his uniform.

The NFL has it’s own rules and regulations, but perhaps the intense customization we’re seeing more and more of in college football could have a trickle down effect. It’s at a pretty high level right now with teams like Nebraska and Miami showcasing custom football cleats for their high profile showdown, while teams like Oregon and Northwestern have unveiled killer new helmets for 2015 to use as alternate options to their usual protective gear. Other teams have issued different cleats, as well, and this could very well be a trend that isn’t going away anytime soon.

And why should it? The basketball world thrives on player branding and style, as every kid growing up wants the new Jordans or Kobe shoes, while Allen Iverson’s “Answer” shoes were a hot item over a decade ago. The drive for the latest and greatest sportswear never ends, and when you can make it custom, the interest grows even more.

The difference? We’re now seeing this transcend sports and ranks. This type of customization was typically seen in basketball at all levels, and we’re really just now seeing college football bring it into the way they do things. Could we see custom football uniforms and cleats be taken to a whole new level going forward? Might we be embarking on a whole new era where football and baseball cleats are as hyped up as a pair of Jordans?

It’s possible, and the recent signs suggest it could be the case. After all, it’s not like Adrian Peterson or Julio Jones are any less popular, any less talented, any less impressive or any less marketable. It’s only just beginning in college football, but it’s at least a start and it’s certainly something to get excited about if you’re a fan of sports – and especially if you play them.

The Cam Newton photo above paints an interesting picture. We already see custom football uniforms and cleats at the NFL level, but they’re predetermined and they’re not specific to a player or brand. They’re always assigned for a team or for an all-star game. The second we start seeing restrictions raised and player’s allowed to express themselves more on the field via what they were, the customization of cleats has a real chance at taking off.

What’s your opinion on sports apparel customization, especially with how it’s utilized at every level of football? Do you think custom football cleats will be more and more in high demand? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

4 NFL Teams That Need New Uniforms

NFL team need new uniforms

Week five of the 2015 NFL season arrives tonight on Thursday Night Football, as the Colts and Texans battle it out for the top spot in the AFC South. Both teams still have a shot at the division and the playoffs, but a loss from either could be a big blow for their season long goals. No matter what happens, though, they’ll both surely be looking good while they go head to head.

Houston and Indianapolis have some of the best NFL uniforms in the league, as the Colts have a classic logo and vintage appeal despite minor modern adjustments over the years, while the Texans have one of the best logos in the league and also boast bold blue and red colors. Call it luck or perfect timing that they don’t find themselves on our top 5 worst NFL uniforms list, but they’re not even close to being one of the pro football teams that badly need to rethink how they look on the field. These four teams can’t say the same. Luckily we don’t have to watch them on television tonight, either:

Oakland Raiders

It’s not that the Raiders look bad. They just lack any real flash. It’s true that you can do flash wrong. The Browns and 49ers spiced up their football uniforms this year and many weren’t impressed, so going new isn’t always going better. But there are certain things the Raiders could do to enhance their color scheme. Like add some. Or define it, outline it, add stripes, etc. The list goes on. It’s classic, it’s vintage and the like, but it’s also a tad on the boring side. Of course, Oakland doesn’t have it nearly as bad as some of the other teams on this list.

Cleveland Browns

Yeah, you knew they’d be here. You can’t blame the Browns for trying. They modernized their usually boring brown look by adding a dark Brown road uni, a white home uniform and a yet to be seen orange alternate. Right up there with the bolder color schemes is the writing of BROWNS on the legs. It’s all bold and it’s all new, but some would say it’s a miss. It’s obviously tough to suggest they already scrap what they just did, but there are definitely some people out there that would agree that might be something to consider.

Baltimore Ravens

Is the dark purple supposed to be…edgy? The black alternate Ravens uniforms with the black helmets, sure. But the purple color scheme might be a big miss from the start. The loyal Baltimore fan base doesn’t care and even embraces it, but from the outside looking in, there’s a lot of purple and not all that much style here.

Washington Redskins

Controversial logos and trademark names aside, there might not be another team in the NFL that needs to go back to the custom football uniforms drawing board. This is a franchise entrenched in pure dysfunction, and it never helps to hit the field not looking good on top of not feeling good. The color scheme is a little dated and the logo and name probably have to go. When that change finally happens, perhaps the Redskins uniforms will get a necessary face lift, as well.

Bucks Announce Fear the Deer Themed Uniforms and Court

Bucks fear the deer uniforms

The Milwaukee Bucks debuted the “Fear the Deer” campaign a few years back when the Bucks made the NBA playoffs but were massive underdogs to the mighty LeBron James-led Miami Heat. Miami ended up not “fearing the deer” at all, but the Bucks at least developed a running theme that was both catchy and funny. Now they’re bringing the intimidation factor out in the open.

The team announced the debut of “Fear the Deer” nights for the upcoming 2015-16 NBA season, where the Bucks will don alternate NBA uniforms and even switch up their court designs as part of their ongoing promotion with Pick’N Save at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. The Fear the Deer uniforms go along with Milwaukee’s third annual Bucks Fan Fest and will be featured at four different homes games on the year.

“We’re always looking for ways to be innovative as an organization, and our new Fear the Deer nights are another example of how we’re continuing to build world-class experiences for our fans,” Milwaukee Bucks President Peter Feigin said. “The Fear the Deer uniforms and first-ever alternate court are a unique way to celebrate the new attitude of Bucks basketball, and an exciting showcase for our young, talented team.”

The timing is spot on for this killer release of custom basketball uniforms, as Milwaukee’s uniforms had been borderline stagnant in year’s past and the franchise had yet to take advantage of the witty theme that had been spawned several years ago. Running full speed ahead with the “Fear the Deer” notion, Milwaukee instills a new type of edge for a new type of team.

Big man Greg Monroe signed on with the Bucks last year because he wanted to be part of something special, and as Milwaukee’s young talent grows in front of it’s fan base, that’s precisely what the Bucks hope to have. Special events and jersey alterations like this are certainly a step in the right direction.

Milwaukee will debut the new edgy look for the first time on December 9th against the Los Angeles Clippers at home. Going up against Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan, the Bucks will surely need all the edge they can get.

What do you think about Milwaukee’s Fear the Deer campaign? Is it cheesy or awesome? Tell us in the comments below!

2015 MLB Playoffs: Wild Card Round Preview

MLB playoffs wild card round preview

The 2015 MLB Playoffs get underway on Tuesday night and wrap up on Wednesday. It’s the beginning of a wild October ride; one the Astros, Yankees, Cubs and Pirates will all hope to stick around and join. Only two teams can move on to the next round, though, so let’s take a look at both matchups and see which teams are likely to stay alive in the chase for the 2015 World Series.

Houston Astros @ New York Yankees

The upstart Astros weren’t supposed to be in this situation. On one hand they were supposed to have their division wrapped up and this should have been an all-or-nothing position the hated Texas Rangers would be in. On the other hand, Houston maybe wasn’t supposed to be in the MLB playoff picture at all. But they are here, and now Dallas Keuchel will lead the Astros into Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night, trying to spin the ball the way he does at home (where he hasn’t lost yet). Doing that on the road against the heavy bats of the Yanks is beyond easier said than done, of course, which is why there is speculation the Astros will be one and done tonight.

Then again, what the Astros have still might be better than New York, even though they’re on the road. Masahiro Tanaka is supposed to be an elite arm that guides New York’s suspect offense through the fire, but he’s fading fast down the stretch and now may be under too much pressure with too much on the lines. If Tanaka can’t keep things together, this could very well be a battle of the bats in what otherwise would come off as a pitcher’s duel. Of course, with anything close to a pitcher’s duel going down in home run central (Yankee Stadium), this game grows increasingly more difficult to call.

The kicker here is Keuchel. He’s not great on three day’s rest and he’s even worse on the road. Make that road game at Yankee Stadium and it’s tough to love him and the Astros to move on.

Pick: Yankees 4, Astros 3

Chicago Cubs @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Thought the first MLB wild card playoff game was tough to call? Try Jake Arrieta versus Gerrit Cole on for size. Both of these MLB playoff games could easily be pitcher’s duels, but this one yields fewer chances and monster smashes and the quality of pitching should be at a higher level from top to bottom, as well. Oddly enough, this game is easier to call.

The reality is this: there should be even less scoring in Wednesday’s game. Elite pitching can rule the playoffs and while it sometimes does not (here’s to looking at you, Kershaw), it feels like it just might in this showdown. This is really all about Arrieta, who has won three of four games against these Pirates and carries the stronger odds to come through in the clutch. Cole has wins under his belt and an ERA below 3.0 on the year and he’s also had success against a good Cubs offense that tends to K a ton. He’s also at home.

However, there isn’t much to hate about Arrieta here, and with such an evenly matched showdown, he has to get the slightest of nods.

Pick: Cubs 2, Pirates 1

Kris Bryant Leads 2015 MLB Jersey Sales

Kris Bryant MLB jersey sales

Kris Bryant got a lot accomplished during his rookie 2015 MLB season. He got to participate in the 2015 MLB Home Run Derby, he helped get the Chicago Cubs to a wild card playoff showdown with the hated Pittsburgh Pirates and even ended up pacing all of baseball in jersey sales.

The second little tidbit is probably the most important, but leading MLB jersey sales is pretty impressive. It’s not a major shock, either, considering the Cubs are a widely loved baseball team and turned into a very solid team this season. Bryant is also one of the game’s top young players, as he made quite an impression in his first season with 26 home runs and a solid .275 batting average. Not bad for the kid’s first season.

While the logic is there for Kris Bryant to take the top spit in MLB jersey sales in 2015, it was still a mild surprise to see a rookie out last the likes of Clayton Kershaw (4th), Mike Trout (5th) and even Bryce Harper (6th). Bryant even edged out teammate Anthony Rizzo (8th) who also appeared in the Home Run Derby and even blaster more homers (31) on the season.

Kudos to Bryant for a strong season, and even more props considering the Cubs are still playing. That being said, Bryant was far from the only surprise on the top-20 list revealed by MLB.com, as a few names could have you thinking a ton of people just happened to order the same set of custom baseball uniforms.

Names like Yadier Molina and David Wright are pretty big surprises to make the top 20 best selling MLB jersey list, especially since that leaves out popular mashers like Chris Davis and Jose Bautista, along with elite arms such as David Price, Chris Sale and Max Scherzer.

Surprised Kris Bryant’s jersey took the top spot during the regular season? Blown away over who didn’t make the cut? Tell us about it in the comments below!

4 NBA Teams That Need New Uniforms

NBA teams that need new uniforms

A new 2015-16 NBA season brings new opportunities across the league. LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers can try again to win it all. The Golden State Warriors can try to repeat as NBA champs. Teams that didn’t make the playoffs can attempt to do so. And before the season starts, there’s still an inkling of hope that some of the worst NBA uniforms could be changed.

Hey, for some NBA teams, their uni’s are so bad you just go make custom basketball uniforms on your own. And when your team isn’t very good, sometimes how they look and the numbers they put up is all you have to hang your hat on. Winning and losing aside, though, there are a handful of teams (if not more) that badly need to consider upgrading or just changing their uniforms. We could include the Clippers and their new digs, but that’s too fresh (and too easy). Here are our favorite 4 NBA teams that need a reality check when it comes to their basketball uniforms:

Oklahoma City Thunder

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook very well could be the NBA’s best duo. Off the court, they might even (in a sense) be the game’s best dressed. Westbrook is definitely known for his interesting fashion choices and it’s not shocking when you see the digs he dons on a nightly basis. Part of OKC’s ensemble is modern, but it’s also boring. The lettering on the jersey tries too hard, the white jerseys are too bland and the blue jerseys kind of actually hurt the eyes. OKC went big when they moved on from being the Seattle Supersonics, but they didn’t necessarily move on up in the looks department. Perhaps a revisit to their jersey would be advised before next season.

Oh, and it got worse. They unveiled their super orange alternative uniforms for the new year. Great.

Utah Jazz

Sometimes it’s good for a team to stick to it’s roots and keep a classic, vintage look. It’s not really working out for the Utah Jazz. They did well to rid their old purple jerseys that included mountains in the background, but now their jerseys come off plain and too old fashioned. That’s an odd label for a team young and trying to rise up in the brutal Western Conference.

Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks had decent enough uniforms before this year, but there were whispers about them possibly shooting for an upgrade. The team listened and even got the players involved, but that ended up being a regrettable idea. Atlanta’s new uni’s include an odd foundation pattern and even sport some neon. They’re probably going to have a hard time pulling these off.

Los Angeles Clippers

Who are we kidding? We had to add them. The Clippers tried to modernize their team with a whole rebranding over the past year and it led to this. It’s not a great look. Hey, they got DeAndre Jordan to stay around and after a bunch of key depth signings they might have a shot at making an NBA Finals run. But they still now have one of the worst NBA uniforms. The logo, the jerseys, it’s all just bad.

The Top 5 Selling NFL Jerseys For Tight Ends Will Surprise You

Top 5 selling NFL jerseys

Prepare to be surprised. Not insanely surprised, but surprised, nonetheless. NFLShop.com tracks their top NFL jersey sales and last week we all saw that Tom Brady leads the way at the quarterback position and overall. Not shocking. Rob Gronkowski leads the way for the tight end position when it comes to jersey sales. Also, not shocking.

But that’s not what we found surprising about the top tight end jerseys this past week. Gronk makes total sense as #1. He’s the best tight end in the league playing for what looks to still be the best team in the league. Jimmy Graham making the list isn’t surprising either. Graham not being in second place, however, is somewhat surprising. And that’s not the only shocker. Check out the top 5 tight end lineup in regards to NFL jerseys sold through the first two weeks of NFL games:

1. Rob Gronkowski

2. Jason Witten

3. Jimmy Graham

4. Vernon Davis

5. Heath Miller

Witten at 2? Davis and Miller even being on this list? That’s where the jaws start-a-droppin’. Why? For one, Graham is the second best tight end in the league. Him getting traded to the Seattle Seahawks was YUGE news and we’re sure a plethora of custom football uniforms were born from that trade even before you could buy the official Jimmy Graham Seahawks jersey.

Witten is a mild draw and plays for one of the most beloved teams in the nation in the Dallas Cowboys, but come on. He’s no longer even a top-5 player at the position. And even if you do make a convincing case to keep him in the top-three – let alone above Graham – how do you explain a regressing Davis and the plodding Miller?

Those three guys having their jerseys sold as they have means rising stars like Travis Kelce and Tyler Eifert got totally hosed when it comes to their fans expressing their loyalty. Others that are definitely deserving are Chicago’s Martellus Bennett, Philadelphia’s Zach Ertz, Detroit’s Eric Ebron, Miami’s Jordan Cameron, Jacksonville’s Julius Thomas, Minnesota’s Kyle Rudolph and Washington’s Jordan Reed – among others.

Either we’ll soon start seeing some of those guys pop up the ranks in the coming weeks, or they’re just not as popular as we all thought. Who do you think is the biggest surprise on the list – or off of it? Let us know in the comments!
